AT LEAST 12 PEOPLE DIED

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - At least 12 people died and 18 were injured on Friday when hundreds of young party-goers rushed to get out of a crowded nightclub in the Mexican capital during a raid on under-age drinkers, police said.
Nine youths, including several minors, and three police officers were asphyxiated in a scramble to leave the News Divine disco after a tip-off from its owner that police were in the building, police and the city's top prosecutor said.
"More than 1,000 people left in a stampede ... for the emergency exit. The exit is very small ... and that's why people were asphyxiated," Mexico City police chief Joel Ortega told the Televisa network.
The emergency exit was partly blocked by boxes, Ortega said.

Two other youths, aged 15 and 18, died in hospital, Mexico City Attorney General Rodolfo Felix told a news conference.
Mexican media photographs showed three bodies lying in the street outside the entrance to the nightclub, their shirts and shoes torn off, while dozens of other shoes were scattered about the nearby sidewalk.
Police arrested more than 30 youths and the nightclub's owner.
Ortega said the crackdown on the party to celebrate the end of the school year was not a surprise raid and the owner had been told about the operation.
Selling alcohol to people under 18 is illegal in Mexico and nightclubs are only allowed to operate within certain time limits. However, those laws are largely ignored by bar and nightclub owners.

In my opinion it was a terrible situation in which many factors were involved; The Police had no strategy to evacuate the place, The owners had the emergency exits closed when they had known about the operation and the most important people under 18 years old are not allowed to enter on this kind of places. Also the owners were selling alcohol to young people.
In conclusion I hope this kind of disaster would be avoid in the future if authorities were not corrupted and unprofesionals and parents had a good comunication with their children.

In my humble opinion, it was a terrible political failure. On the run to get the better position to the next presidential elections while cannot be controled the mexican culture the Darwins law dictate the direction of blame.
Then the questions should be address is diferent ways, as how can definetivaly will be managed the real needs on the Mexican society.

In my opinion it was a horrible party , because many people died, I think sometimes the responsables are the fathers in that sithuation who gave permission because the mayority are teen agers and the nightclub's owner who didnt do the emergency exit appropriate.
In conclusion, the goberment have to do something about it.

Unfortunately this tragic accident shows to us which the corruption in our country is layers, when allowing the funcinamiento of places like this and also it demonstrates the ineptitude of the police when they realising this type of operative

In my opinion, it was a terrible event and many people was involved.
Firstly, owners who didn't let that the youths get out of night club and sold alcohol to minors.
Then, fathers who don't speak with their children. So, they aren't careful with their sons, because maybe they are busy and all the time are thinking about money.
Finally, police officers who never have a training and as a consequence they don't know how they can work in chaos.
Personally I think if we want to avoid this type of events, we have to work together and we have to demand our politics that the laws must be respected.

I´m in agreement whit some commentaries that have done.
Really it was a terrible event, but unfortunately that kind of situations happens frequently in our country. I think that they continue happening if we don´t collaborate whit the part of the responsibility that touches to us.
I believe that all tour araund the corruption, desorganization and by all means in the negligence.
one the one hand the breach of the laws in public places especially in tha caverns, the other hand the lack of capicity that unfortunately always have the authorities and finally, the negligence on tha part of the parents of family towards its children.
In conclusion, I recognize that we are living in a world where the political and social power and money are more important than the own life.

Really it was horrible, one of the problem it's that the policemen aren't trainning to this kind of situations, if the police hadn't closed the exit it couldn`t hapened. The owner of this place had a permission from a judge,it show us that authorities are corrupted, and they shouldn't be the "authorities". The parents should be in contact whith their children, how is posible that children of 13 years old were in that place and some of them known that in that place sold alcohol and drogs, the parents should take care whith their sons.

In this topic I think that there are several culprits the first one serious the owner was not able to take a place with emergency exits the sufficiently wide ones for that place and to sell alcoholic drinks to smaller person that gave him/her the permission to open the place without completing all the requirements and later the police that I cannot believe that it is so inconciente and not this prepared one for these types of problems.

Well I totaly agree with Martha, because everything it´s for our political, for their corruption. We suppoused that they check that kind of places focus on has everything in order, and what´s surprised like most of them, nothing it´s in a good conditions. But some day they knew it and the owners of that places of course practiced the corruption

This event was terrible and we could see again, how the authorities aren’t competent to do their work and it shows us also the corruption and its consequences. Unfortunately the consequence wasn’t about money; it was the life of some young people.

In this case had a lot of people responsible, the authorities, the owners, the parents and the young people. The authorities weren’t prepared to do their work with those conditions, the owners because they allowed the minors to entry and too many people. The parents because they didn’t talk with their children about de consequences and some parents let that their children go to this kind of place. But I think that the main responsible are the young people because they knew all the risks and they didn’t mind it, only they wanted to drink and dance.

Finally… What are the authorities going to do to prevent a event like this?, and what are we going to finish with the corruption in our country?. Maybe this event will be forgotten…
